One of the great things about Windows Server 2008 is that you can install the OS without the need of a product key. When you do, the product is installed in “trial version” (fully functional 60-day trial). After the 60 days you need to register or Windows Server 2008 will stop working…or so you would think…

Did you know that with a neat trick you can actually extend the 2008 evaluation period? Yes you can, actually you can have 240 days of evaluation on any Windows Server 2008 version.  All you need to do this the following:

  1. Click Start, and then click Command Prompt.
  2. Type slmgr.vbs -dli, and then press ENTER to check the current status of your evaluation period.
  3. To reset the evaluation period, type slmgr.vbs –rearm, and then press ENTER.
  4. Restart the computer.
